DUMFRIES SHERIFF COURT AND JUSTICE OF THE PEACE COURT

Dumfries Courts Information

Where is Dumfries Sheriff Court? Directions and map to Dumfries Sheriff Court and Dumfries Justice of the Peace Court The Dumfries court house building has operated as a court since 1866. It is one of the oldest running courts. It presently has two sheriff court rooms and one Justice of the Peace Court.

The court has two resident sheriffs and a visiting sheriff. There are a number of lay magistrates who preside in the JP Court. Road Traffic Offences can be heard in the Dumfries Sheriff Court or in the Justice of the Peace Court situated on the first floor of the building, depending on the severity of the offence.

The court is fairly easy to travel to along the M74, which is the main arterial route. There is no court parking, but parking locally is available. There is no cafe within the court, but there are many coffee shops nearby.

Typically, on trial date we will meet our clients either in the courthouse, or at our Dumfries office , which is located on the same street, directly opposite the court at number 33 Buccleuch Street.
